French bank Societe Generale has announced that it has signed agreements with two African banking groups to sell its subsidiaries in four African countries. The bank’s activities in Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania and Chad will be transferred to Vista and Coris. The financial details of the agreements were not disclosed, but they include the acquisition of all customer portfolios and employees. Societe Generale’s subsidiaries in Congo and Equatorial Guinea will be sold to Vista Group, while those in Mauritania and Chad will be sold to Coris Group. The agreements are expected to be completed by the end of 2023. The French bank has also started a strategic review of its 52.34% stake in Union Internationale de Banques in Tunisia.
